Positive thinking means getting rid of “what if” syndrome

If this is striking a chord with you then it is probably because the exact opposite is happening in your life right now, no matter how hard you keep trying. Everything you start, every relationship, every new project seems to be a struggle and frequently ends in failure - and you have no idea why.

The most successful people never expect to fail and it is a skill that can be learned and more about that later, but that is only part of the story. Successful people do not make excuses, they do not create artificial obstacles and they do not invent mental barriers. These are the kind of things that make the difference between real success and failure and if you can learn to overcome them, then everything you want to accomplish in life can be yours.

So let’s start from the beginning. Ask yourself what happens every time you want to start something new. Are you visualising outcomes, can you see everything working out well, do you instantly identify all the benefits together with the joys and pleasures that these will offer?

The answer to that is almost certainly yes and based on that desire many people will embark on this new venture filled with optimism and hope and the certainty that this time they will really achieve and succeed at everything.

However, once the initial excitement has faded then many will then start to create the barriers that have always prevented them from succeeding in the past. Real success requires action, a key part of powerful positive thinking and this is when the excuses really start to kick in.

I call it “What If” syndrome and it goes something like this. What if I start that new job and I fail; what if this new relationship does not work; what if this new business means that I lose everything; what if I move and lose all my friends – you get the idea.

What if is the exact opposite of everything you want to achieve because it prevents you from going forward? You have created a synthetic fear factor where none existed before and you have effectively paralysed any chance of attracting the thing you want most from ever working out.

You have created excuses for doing absolutely nothing. You have identified the goals but now fear the possibility of attaining them because it has become a step into the unknown and you are now way outside your comfort zone.

Successful people who are used to winning go about things in a totally different way. They first identify what they want to achieve and then assess the risks – for them the “What If” syndrome comes in at the front end.

Before they decide to press the go button they create a strategy by looking at all the things that could go wrong and then make the decision based on real facts. If at that stage they decide that what they want is unlikely to work out then the idea is rejected and that is why successful people always seem to be on the winning side.

They have worked out that they will succeed once again because they have already discarded the excuses and fears and have now started taking real action to ensure that everything they want is delivered on time. They have also used buckets of common sense to keep their objectives realistic – another key factor when delivering powerful positive thinking.

Successful people start working on their goals once they have decided on a clear objective and while they may occasionally be hindered by unforeseen events that no one can really factor in, the odds are very much stacked in their favour.

It is however your choice. If you are comfortable making excuses then please do not envy or blame others. The only thing that is really preventing your success – is you – so what are you going to do about it.

Could this be the day when you stop making excuses?

Let positive thinking train your sub conscious

The mind acts like a sophisticated software programme for your sub conscious, the greatest computer ever devised and like computers everywhere it is totally devoid of all emotion and feeling and will do exactly what it is told.

Your brain and thoughts that develop in your imagination are passed down to the sub conscious ready to be delivered by the great Amazon of the Universe. There is no fail safe device – it will simply respond to what it receives.

So do not be surprised if everything falls apart around you when you keep filling up your sub conscious with negative thoughts. Computers – and that is what you sub conscious really is – take everything literally - and if it is negative information that it is receiving, then that is what you will get back.

No one of course expects you to walk around all day with a Pollyanna smile, yes you will get angry from time to time, you will have several negative thoughts or ideas – that is all part of being human and your sub conscious will recognise them for what they really are – just passing ideas.

It is the relentless day in, day out thoughts that constantly occupy your brain which are firmly impressed into your own personal computer. These thoughts are quickly identified as reality and then that in turn is what you will attract.

Positive thinking has the reverse affect. If you are constantly seeing your life as a success, if you always visualise yourself as a winner, a person who gets the job done, then that is what the sub conscious will receive and in turn – that is what it will deliver.

Not easy to do if you are in a dark place right now, but just think back for a moment when you have been confronted by some of your greatest challenges. Did they not pass in time? Did they not work out for the best and in hindsight – what would you do differently?

I am not talking about the passing of a loved one or a terminal illness. These are clearly life changing events which need to be dealt with in a totally separate way and only you can decide how such things should be handled.

We are looking instead at the day to day things we all have to face and you have a clear choice – complain about the situation you are facing and decide there really is no way out or choose to be strong and resolute, accept what has happened and then make positive plans for the future.

This means making a decision that you will be happy, that your life will improve, that all the bad things will soon be in the past. This means making new plans for the future and visualising yourself in a better place

Whatever you are facing right now will in time pass and it will happen a lot more quickly if you have a plan, a firm strategy that will help you from this dark place and back into the light where you really belong.

You can start now by reprogramming your sub conscious.  Start to focus on the good things that make you happy, see yourself as successful, prosperous and making a positive difference to the lives of others.

Use plenty of common sense and reality because there is no magic button that will change things overnight. These things have to be done gradually, a little at a time to undo all the negative programming – maybe stuff that goes back years.

This is because you have choice. When bad things happen to change your life you can choose to let them takeover or you can decide instead to fight back. Only you can make that decision and in my book it would always be the positive route – what do you think?

This is positive thinking in real action. This is the kind of stuff that will change your life on a permanent basis because we are creating a new you. Do not be confused with promises from some self-books that offer untold riches and success – real positive thinking is about changing lives for the better and that is what you are doing right now. You can concentrate on the other stuff when we have got you back to where you belong.

So if you are ready – then let it begin.

Positive thinking and New Year’s resolutions

You might as well give up now and save yourself all that stress. Why deny yourself something when it’s easier to carry on as before. Sorry, I did not catch what you said – “this time it’s different, this time I really want to succeed.”

But you said that last year and you are still a size 20, your gym membership was a waste of money, you are still in that bad relationship, still in that employment rut and you are still no nearer to solving those money problems.

It is your choice of course – this time it really can be different and it does not have to be hard work especially if you embrace positive thinking, but you must really want to make changes to your life and lifestyle.

If you do not want to give up smoking, you never will. If you do not really want to diet, you never will. If you really want to hang on to those tired old habits and relationships then what is the point of making a token gesture for a few weeks.

In such cases you will always make an excuse to stop your resolution. You will manufacture arguments with people, just so you can hear them tell you that you should forget all about your good intentions because it makes you moody.

Those are just the words you want to hear because it takes away all those feelings of guilt. You can convince yourself that you really are doing your best, but for the benefit of the people you love you are going to stop that resolution now. What a cop out – you failed again.

But you know the real truth, don’t you. You really do want to make those changes, but you simply do not have the strength or willpower to finish the job – if only you could get some real help you could definitely do it this time.

Well, here comes the good news. Help is on its way, if you want it. It comes in the form of Powerful Positive Thinking and it can help you succeed in delivering those vital New Year resolutions once and for all.

You do not have to set up mood boards or make constant affirmations. You do not have to work on positive thinking exercises and meditations. When you constantly focus on all these things there is the danger that you send out the wrong messages.

That great Amazon of the Universe misunderstands the order and sees that what you really want is very much lacking in your life and that’s what it will eventually deliver - lack, zip, nothing – and is the reason why so many fail to get any benefit from positive thinking.

To succeed you are going to use other tools like your imagination, common sense and action and if you get them in the right order, it can really work for you. So if you are ready – then we can get started.

You have to be sure exactly what you want to achieve and to do this you need to focus your thoughts and write down in much detail as possible your goals and ambitions.  There are other blogs on this website which explain at length the correct way of doing this – but in short make sure you get your specification or order to the Universe as precise as possible. By doing this you will be certain what you want to achieve rather than simply having a woolly idea about possible changes.

Once that has been done and you are sure that it is exactly what you want, then you must destroy the paper as dramatically as possible. You are metaphorically sending an e-mail to the Universe – and do not worry – because your order has been received.

You must now forget all about that order. If you keep returning to it then it will never be delivered. Focus instead on your imagination. Visualise how healthy and attractive you will be, how much richer you have become. This is your dream we are talking about here so let your imagination run riot as if your dream has already been turned into reality.

Support your imagination with action. Join that gym, take more walks, look at ways to save or earn more money, become more sociable so you can meet others – by simply taking action you are oiling the wheels and helping the Universe.

Yes, there may still be times when you are wavering and that’s where common sense comes in. Keep it realistic, keep it happening a little bit at a time, keep your imagination going and then one day – as if by magic – you would have succeeded.

Now that’s what I call a new year’s resolution.
